1.4.1 Access to healthy food

Access to Healthy Food for All

The key policy focus is to ensure equitable access to healthy food, particularly in deprived areas where access may be limited. Interventions involve collaboration with retailers to address the presence and pricing of healthy foods in local stores, making them more affordable and readily available to all segments of the population.

Partnerships with retailers are central to this approach, focusing on enhancing the supply of healthy food options in local shops and considering pricing structures that support affordability for those in need.

Access to Healthy Food in Workplaces, Schools, Universities, and Hospitals

Efforts are directed towards working with organisations to develop and implement robust nutrition guidelines and practices that foster healthy food availability within workplaces, educational settings, and healthcare facilities. A behavioural science approach is also recommended, involving the redesign of canteens and menus to nudge healthier choices.

Interventions include the introduction of workplace wellness programmes, where organisations support staff in making healthier food choices. Menu redesign in institutional canteens is another method, leveraging behavioural insights to encourage increased consumption of plant-based and nutritious foods.
