Innovation in screening & diagnostics

2.6 Digital health and wearable devices

The advent of digital health tools provides the potential to shift screening and to a lesser extent, diagnostics, away from clinic based settings to virtual, hybrid and digital only service models. Benefits include raising consumer awareness and accountability for prevention and early diagnosis. However, healthcare systems must also adapt to include and incentivise the use of digital health tools in real world settings. Such adaptations include health system financing models, consumer education, and metrics that are tailored to optimal levels rather than markers of disease states.
